Harbor Freight Chainsaws Recalled for Failing to Turn Off
CAMARILLO, CA. – May 16, 2018 (necn.com) As reported by necn.com, about 1 million chainsaws have been recalled by Harbor Freight Tools after reports of the chainsaws not turning off.*
As of the time of the recall, Harbor Freight had received 15 reports about the electric chainsaws. Consumers reported that the saws continued to run after they had been turned off. It appears the power switches are malfunctioning. Three people have been injured because of the issue, reporting lacerations caused by the saws’ failure to shut off. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which issued the recall notice, one person was injured seriously enough to require stitches.
The recall affects two models of 14-inch electric chainsaws that retail for about $50. The saws were sold under the brand names Portland, One Stop Gardens, and Chicago Electric. The Portland and One Stop Gardens saws are green and black, and the Chicago Electric saws are red and black. The chainsaws were sold nationwide in stores and through Harbor Freight’s website from May 2009 through February 2018.
Harbor Freight is based in Camarillo, California, and has stores around the country. The company is offering free replacements at its stores for consumers who have affected saws and expects the replacements to be available by May 21. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends consumers stop using the recalled chainsaws immediately and return the saws to local Harbor Freight stores.
