Woman Dies at Retirement Community in East Georgia Following a Catastrophic Fire
Property accidents that involve large living structures, such as apartments, condominiums and retirement communities have the potential to affect hundreds of peoples' lives. In such large residential complexes, fires can occur for any reason at any given time. For example, if a fire starts in the kitchen of a retirement home, the other side of the building may not even be aware of the fire until it has completely spread. When this occurs, it is not always easy to evacuate each and every resident and employee in time before the engulfs the entire building.
A Georgia woman lost her life this week when an East Georgia retirement home caught fire and nearly destroyed the entire complex, according to The Telegraph. The fire alarms reportedly went off shortly after 3:00 a.m. on June 3, 2015. Most of the residents were evacuated, but one woman tragically did not survive, and likely lost her life due to smoke inhalation. Another resident was trapped in the building, but was fortunately rescued. The cause of the fire is not yet known and the investigation is ongoing.
