Meijer Recalls Infant Shoes Due to Choking Hazard

October 28, 2010

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC), just announced a voluntary recall of Falls Creek infant boy shoes. The commission advised that consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. The product is imported by Meijer of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and approximately 2,300 units are involved in the recall. The hazard involved is that the shoe lace toggles can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Apparently no injuries have been reported.

This recall involves Meijer Falls Creek infant boy casual shoes with bungee laces and toggles. The brown leather shoes were sold in infant sizes 5 to 10 and have "Falls Creek" imprinted on the bottom of the shoe. The shoes were sold at Meijer stores nationwide from July 2010 through September 2010 for about $15. The product is manufactured in China. The safety commission advises that consumers should immediately take the recalled shoes from children. Additionally, that consumers can remove and discard the toggles to eliminate the hazard or return the product to any Meijer store for a full refund.
