Lithium-Ion Battery Fire in NYC Apartment Injured 38 People

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK - According to a news report published on breitbart.com, an apartment in New York City burst into flames and injured 38 residents. The New York Fire Department reported that two of the residents were critically injured, and five other people were seriously injured in the blaze. A lithium-ion battery is to blame for the tragic three-alarm apartment fire. The report states that the apartment fire started at approximately 10:25 AM last Saturday at the 249-unit Rivercourt high-rise apartment building located at 429 East 52nd Street.

The news report states that New York Fire Department firefighters executed a heroic rescue of a woman as they fought the Manhattan apartment fire. The victim's arm was caught on a window guard. She was located on the 20th floor of the apartment building. Video of the brave rescue showed firefighter Arthur Podgorski carrying the woman while they were connected to a harness system. The firefighter lowered the victim to the floor below, and she was carried inside by a different firefighter. There were four fighters involved in the rescue.

According to firefighter Podgorski, this situation is the exact reason why they train so hard, and there isn't any room for errors. He also stated that the price of failure is substantial and the public expects us to be prepared.

New York Fire Department Deputy Assistant Chief Frank Leeb stated that their firefighting team has a winning mindset, and they "play to win on every run, every tour, and every day."

Breitbart.com reports that the New York Fire Department firefighters arrived at the scene of the high-rise fire within three minutes of the 911 call, and the blaze was under control at around 11:30 AM. Five New York Fire Department firefighters were injured as they battled the fire.

The cause of the apartment fire was connected to a lithium-ion battery normally used in e-bikes or e-scooters. There were about five e-bikes found at the front door of the apartment unit where the blaze began. The apartment unit's occupant, who repairs bikes and has had numerous complaints filed against him, and law enforcement is now investigating the bike repairman.

New York Fire Department Chief Fire Marshal Daniel Flynn reported that this fire was about the "200th fire this year caused by lithium-ion batteries from micro-mobility devices."
