Tianeptine Products Connected to Overdoses, Serious Injuries, and Fatalities

October 07, 2022

Tianeptine is an unapproved supplement that has been recently linked to severe injuries and death. Tianeptine products are often found online or even at gas stations, but there is no information as to the safety or effectiveness of the drug. Tianeptine is not FDA approved for any medical use. However, some companies are illegally Tianeptine selling products to consumers. Moreover, some companies are making unproven and dangerous claims that Tianeptine improves brain function and treats anxiety, depression, opioid use disorder,  pain, and other medical conditions.

Even though the FDA has cautioned the public about Tianeptine, there are many vendors that continue to sell the drug. In the United States, there have been numerous reports of unwanted effects and bad reactions involving Tianeptine. These incidents are on the rise.

The FDA has reported on cases where people have experienced serious harmful effects while taking Tianeptine, including agitation, confusion, drowsiness, sweating, high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, coma, death, and slowed or stopped breathing. Consumers should avoid Tianeptine products and speak with their healthcare provider if they need help with depression, opioid dependence, pain, anxiety, or other ailments since there are approved medicines for these conditions.

The FDA has taken steps to protect the public, including warning consumers that Tianeptine is not a safe food additive, nor is it a safe dietary ingredient. The FDA has issued warning letters to companies who are illegally selling tianeptine products as dietary supplements. The agency also issued import alerts to stop any tianeptine shipments at the borders.
