According to an online recall report published on cleveland19.com, approximately one million people are waiting for replacement Philips CPAP machines following the Philips breathing machine recall.
Almost three million people use Philips CPAP machines to sleep more safely at night. The issue is causing patients to choose between their sleep and potential cancer risks. The manufacturer admits that there are possible health risks associated with their recalled sleep apnea and ventilation machines.
According to the report, the recalled devices were made with sound abatement foam that can break down releasing toxic particles and gases. These particles and gases can be breathed in or swallowed causing several health risks. The issue involves Philips' Dream Station and other models.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration states that the recall is a Class I recall because the issue can injure or kill its user. Class I recalls are the most severe form of recall. The FDA also stated that these toxic chemicals may have a carcinogenic effect on organs such as the lungs, liver, and kidneys. The report states that the FDA is finding cancer cases among patients who have used the recalled breathing machine devices for six months or longer.
