Missouri Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit at Nursing Home for Veterans in Cameron, Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI - A military veteran's son settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the State of Missouri.  The lawsuit alleged his late father was killed after receiving negligent medical treatment at a state-run nursing home.

The lawsuit is the latest six-figure settlement paid by the state for a variety of legal actions, such as negligence, harassment, and discrimination. 

The news report states that the Missouri Veterans Commission is struggling to hire and keep nursing aides due to the low pay levels.  

The wrongful death lawsuit filed against the commission alleges that his father died because of inadequate medical treatment that he received at the veteran's nursing home in Cameron.  The son stated that an aide gave his father medications by mouth despite a doctor's orders to not give his father medications in that way.  His father was also allegedly given someone else's medications.

The lawsuit states that on October 22, 2018, the decedent was given oral medications that were intended for the man's roommate in violation of his doctor's orders.  Three days later, the victim was admitted to a hospital and passed away.
