City of Sonoma Faces Three Pedestrian Wrongful Death Lawsuits

SONOMA - A news article on SONOMANEWS.COM reports that the family of a man who was tragically killed while crossing Verano Avenue has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Sonoma.*  According to city officials, the pedestrian accident occurred outside of city limits.  

The two pedestrian accidents involving cars led to two $3 million wrongful death lawsuits being filed against the city.  The wrongful death cases include the fatality of a 78-year-old man who was hit by a vehicle at 6:20 in the morning while walking along a crosswalk at the Maxwell Farms Regional Park entrance. The other pedestrian collision happened when a woman was struck by a City of Sonoma Public Works motor vehicle. She sustained severe injuries, including head and brain trauma.

In May, the City of Sonoma paid $875,000 to one family whose loved one sustained a fatal head injury when she fell down at the Sebastiani Theatre in 2019.

The lawsuits allege that the City "owned and maintained a section of roadway that is in an unreasonably unsafe condition as to constitute a dangerous condition on public property."  The lawsuit alleges that the area needs to be completely re-engineered.
