Surfside Condo Collapse Death Toll Tragically Climbs to 64 Victims
SURFSIDE, FLORIDA - The Surfside building collapse death toll has tragically risen to 64 victims. According to Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, authorities decided to shift their search and rescue effort to a recovery effort. Levine Cava stated that four more victims were recovered last Thursday and the Miami-Dade Police Department identified five more collapse victims last Thursday evening.
The Miami Mayor stated that seventy-six people were unaccounted for during a recent news conference.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has been flying drones to collect necessary imaging to support the fact-finding process and also scans the collapse site twice a day. Levine Cava stated that NIST had tagged 182 specimens. The victim's families have been meeting with NIST and other experts in an effort to understand the need to transition from rescue to recovery.
A fire department official promised the families that they would not stop working until the crew reached the bottom of the debris, and they have recovered every missing loved one.
