Army Veteran's Mission is to Raise Awareness of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder to Georgia

March 27, 2021

AUGUSTA, GA - An Army veteran is raising awareness about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by walking across the United States.  The army veteran began his walk in February of 2020 following the death of his grandfather.  When Stephen Meyers walks into a state, he meets with various organizations to teach about healthier ways of coping with traumatic experiences.

Mr. Meyers stated to reporters that he started walking after the tragic death of his grandfather, and then he decided to walk across the United States.  The army veteran uses his experience to engage with people and organizations about post-traumatic stress disorder and healthy PTSD coping skills.

Mr. Meyers has walked over 200 miles in the past week and took a 150-mile detour so he could stop in Savannah, Georgia.  In total, Mr. Meyers has walked more than 1,600 miles in Kansas, Tennessee, and most of the state of Georgia.  He began his walk across the country began in February 2020.  He started in Kansas City, Missouri, and has already walked through Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio.  However, he had to halt his hike because of the spread of COVID-19.  He resumed his walk across America in August and has walked through Alabama, Tennessee, and most of Georgia.

The former combat veteran stated, "Each one of us knows someone that is suffering in silence, and I really want to reach out to them."  According to Mr. Meyers, he has suffered from combat-related post-traumatic stress, and he has been speaking with people, survivors of rape, child abuse, horrific car accidents, war veterans, and people who are suffering from the loss of loved ones.

Mr. Meyers is on his way to Jacksonville, Florida.  To find out more information about his mission, PTSD, and his travels, you can visit his website ptsd-walk.com.
