Foreign Countries Clear the Boeing 737 Max to Resume Flights
ASSOCIATED PRESS - Some foreign countries have cleared the Boeing 737 Max to resume flights.*
Boeing's 737 Max was banned from flights for nearly two years after the jet was involved in a pair of fatal crashes. The UAE is one of the world's first foreign countries to grant the Boeing 737 Max clearance to resume operations. The jet has been in service in the U.S. since December of 2020.
Each foreign government has worked and met with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to ensure all safety conditions, operation updates, and pilot training conditions had been met. The UAE did not specify at what time the Boeing 737 Max flights would resume but stated that the process would require additional time for airlines to ensure full training and changes were completed.
In March of 2019, all Boeing 737 Max jets were grounded worldwide after the Jakarta Lion Air crash and the March 11, 2019, Ethiopian Airlines accident. Aviation investigators blamed the accidents on several mechanical and technical issues, including a flawed computer system that forced the planes' noses down until the jets plummeted to the ground.
The UAE's permission to resume Boeing 737 Max flights included certain "corrective measures" applied by the country's airlines, especially the "modernization" of the MCAS software, which caused the jet's nose to be pushed down.
