Bowling Accident Causes Cake Boss Star to Impale Hand In New Jersey
NEW JERSEY- Abc13.com writes that a bowling accident caused a start from the show "Cake Boss" to impale his hand. The victim was attempting to repair a bowling pin mechanism when the machine impaled his hand. A bowling pin was reportedly lodged in the cage mechanism, and as he attempted to remove the pin, his hand became trapped.*
The reality star was forced to watch as a metal rod one and a half inches in diameter slowly impaled his hand three times. The injury, which was to the victim's dominant right hand, struck between his middle and ring fingers.
Fortunately, the man's teenage sons were able to use a reciprocating saw to cut the rod and free their father.
So far, the victim underwent two surgeries. According to representatives, his road to recovery will be a long one.
The incident might sound like a freak accident, but previous bowling machine incidents have taken place in recent years. In fact, in one tragic case, a 29-year-old man working at a bowling alley in Brownsville, Texas, died when his shirt became struck in a pinsetter as he attempted to repair the device. The twisting collar strangled the victim. In that case, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration investigated and found the death preventable, and the man's employer in violation of safety regulations.
Another case occurred in Florence, Colorado, when a man was also killed while attempting to fix an automatic pinsetter. The victim, who was the owner, was impaled by the machine. After the owner went in back to fix the machine, employees noticed he was missing for too long. A female employee went into the back to see what was wrong and found the man impaled. The man died a short while later.
