Fatal Georgia Pedestrian Accidents Are on the Rise
GEORGIA- Ajc.com writes that Georgia is facing rising numbers of fatal pedestrian crashes. The state’s numbers indicate that these incidents are rapidly rising, including a 32 percent jump from 2017 to 2018.
While pedestrian deaths are rising on a national level, the increase is a much more modest three percent during that same period of time. The reason that Georgia is suffering such a steep climb in deadly pedestrian crashes is unclear. However, the state has undergone economic growth and a rise in population size, which could be leading to a higher number of traffic incidents. Simply put, more cars on the road means the potential for more accidents.
The state’s officials are hoping that new distracted driving laws will help to reduce the number of deadly incidents that take place annually in Georgia.
Sadly, in 2019, it appears that traffic deaths rose from 1,504 in 2018 to 1,507. While the numbers indicate only a modest increase, the previous two years showed reductions in crash-related deaths. Most of the deadly incidents in the state are avoidable accidents caused by human error and careless driving. Distractions, alcohol impairment, and speeding are all leading to many of these tragic losses.
