Dangerous Game Putting Kids at Risk on Georgia Roads
CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA- Wgxa.tv writes that police are warnings parents in Cherokee County about a dangerous game that teens have been engaging in throughout the area. The game, called "nerf wars," can lead to reckless driving that puts the participants and others on the road in potential danger.*
Teens who play this game sometimes travel through parking lots and on the road, chasing one another in their cars. The results could be a severe crash. The sheriff also explained that while the guns used in the game are nerf guns, many people carry real guns throughout the state. Not everyone will know that the nerf guns are part of a game, and teens could, therefore, create a risk of initiating a tragic misunderstanding. Police asked that parents help explain that to young drivers that this game should not be occurring on the road or involve cars.
AAA writes that motor vehicle collisions kill more American teens than anything else. The crash rate for teenage drivers is about four times that of older motorists. As compared to a teenager driving alone, a teen carrying one passenger under the age of 21 has a risk of being in a crash that is 44 percent higher. That risk doubles when there are two passengers under 21 years old in the vehicle, and quadruples if there are three or more passengers under 21 in the car.
