COVID-19 Tragically Kills Ten Residents of Nursing Home in Redwood City, California (CA)
REDWOOD CITY, CA- Abc7news.com writes that an outbreak of coronavirus occurred at a nursing home in Redwood City, leading to at least ten fatalities. Another ten residents and staff members have also tested positive for the virus.*
The director of the facility stated that she wants to continue caring for the sick patients at the home. One of the victims was the former president of Stanford University and also served as the head of the Food and Drug Administration during the Carter administration.
Across California, 5,400 residents and workers at nursing homes and other similar facilities have been diagnosed with coronavirus. The infections have killed over 530 people in the state. A doctor of geriatric medicine from the Stanford School of Medicine stated that the impacted facility is one of the best in the area for treating patients with dementia. He explained that the patients in these homes require a great deal of personal assistance, making the spread of a contagious virus such as the coronavirus difficult to contain. He also explained that moving these patients is hard because they are used to their surroundings and to the people who are taking care of them.
With so many workers calling in sick, the facility is now getting assistance from the San Mateo Department of Public Health. The facility’s director stated that the pandemic is preventing the connection between people because of the required personal protective equipment and masks as well as the physical distancing. The virus has forced many adjustments for the workers in these facilities.
Gordan Manor released a statement explaining that their concern is the well-being of their residents and families and that they are devastated by the impact of the virus on their community.
