Nursing Student in Riverside County Dies from Coronavirus

April 28, 2020

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA- Nbclosangeles.com writes that a nurse's assistant in Riverside County has died from the coronavirus. The twenty-year-old woman was employed in a facility which had been working to handle an outbreak of COVID-19.*

The victim was a student working on her nursing degree. The family says that the young woman was passionate about helping other people. Reports indicate that the woman was diagnosed with the virus and passed away seven days later in the hospital. Family members stated that she did not have any pre-existing conditions.

The student was working for the Extended Care Hospital in Riverside while pursuing her college degree. She was a graduate of Norco High School, and her family stated that being a nurse was her dream. The victim's uncle spoke out about the tragic loss saying that it was "shocking" and that the family is "speechless" about what happened.

The county Public Health department reported that the facility where the victim worked had suffered an outbreak of 30 cases of the virus, including the patients and the staff. The woman took three tests for the virus after her symptoms presented. The third revealed that she was positive.

Days before her death, the young woman called 911 to report she was having difficulty breathing.

The victim had been living with her parents and her brother. The family is isolated in their home now, even as they try to arrange the young woman's funeral. The members of the victims' household are now waiting to learn whether they, too, will show symptoms of the deadly disease.
