Website Listing Ohio Facilities with Coronavirus Taken Down

April 26, 2020

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Wkbn.com writes that a website that contained a list of Ohio nursing homes with positive cases of the coronavirus has been taken down. The Ohio Department of Health had published the site. Reports indicate that the Ohio Department of Health may have had some facilities listed incorrectly.*

According to the Ohio Healthcare Association (OHCA), as soon as the list went up, they began to receive calls that the information was not accurate. The OHCA stated that they requested the list be taken down until the information could be verified.

In addition to having facilities on the list that may not have cases of the virus, the OHCA reported other problems as well. In some instances, the lists did not separate cases of patients from cases of staff members. In one example, it appears that a contractor was included in the numbers when they were neither a staff member nor a resident.

The Department of Health stated that the list would be posted again this week after the information was verified. OHCA requested that the department allow providers to review the numbers before they posted them online. Other requests included setting standards for local health departments to follow when reporting data to the state, the separation of data on cases in the resident population versus in the staff members, and to remove resolved cases from the list, or to separate those cases out.

Nationally, nursing homes have been severely impacted by the virus. The federal government is also working to collect data on cases in these homes as they are a good way to predict where there are outbreaks.
