Over 200 Georgia Long-Term Care Facilities Have Reported a Coronavirus Outbreak
GEORGIA - April 24, 2020 - According to an online news report published on WSBTV.com, over 200 nursing homes, long-term care facilities, and senior assisted living centers in Georgia have reported coronavirus outbreaks. The outbreak of COVID-19 infections at senior care facilities has loved ones desperately searching for answers and help.
On April 19, 2020, the Georgia Department of Health announced that the Carrollton Manor Nursing Home had 39 residents who tested positive for the coronavirus. Five residents of the 80 nursing home residents at the nursing home tragically passed away. Also, seven Carrollton Manor Nursing Home staff members, unfortunately, tested positive for the coronavirus. The entire county has just over 300 cases as of Tuesday morning.
COVID-19 infections have rapidly spread throughout Georgia´s senior care facilities. At this time, Georgia senior care facilities across the state have reported a total of 1,900 cases of patient infections and over 295 patient deaths. According to state records, the total number of infected staff working in nursing homes throughout the state of Georgia has grown to 966. This infection totals account for approximately 3,000 of Georgia´s 20,000 COVID-19 cases.
Last week, members from the Georgia National Guard disinfected Carrollton Manor Nursing Home. There are over 2,000 guard members serving in different capacities throughout the state of Georgia.
