Palm Beach County Nursing Home Deaths Second Highest in the State

April 23, 2020

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL- Wptv.com writes that 5,500 nursing home residents in the nation have been killed by the coronavirus. Current reports indicate that Palm Beach County’s homes are the second deadliest in the state, although details regarding which facilities are impacted have not been made available at this time.*

So far, the state is refusing to release the names of facilities where residents or staff have tested positive for the virus. Reporters were able to learn that the Barrington Terrace facility in Boynton Beach has two staff members who are confirmed to have contracted the disease. A spokesperson for the facility stated that the staff members are now being quarantined and do not have contact with the community. As of now, the report stated that none of the residents have tested positive.

Florida did rerelease information about the numbers in the various counties in the state. There have been 114 confirmed cases of the virus in Palm Beach County, and 24 deaths. The numbers indicate that the county has the third-highest number of cases out of all counties in the state, but the second-highest number of reported deaths.

Nursing homes are known to be particularly susceptible to the spread of the potentially deadly virus. The residents are living in close quarters, and once the virus is introduced, it is challenging to prevent it from spreading.

At the Barrington Terrace, all staff members have their temperatures tested each time they enter the building. The common dining area has been shut down, and the facility stated that they are taking steps to protect the residents from the pandemic.
