Nursing Home Resident Dies of Coronavirus in Cameron County, Texas
TEXAS - Brownsvilleherald.com writes that an 82-year-old woman tragically died from the coronavirus this week in the Windsor Atrium in Harlingen, Texas. The victim is the second to die at the Valley Baptist Medical Center from the virus.*
The county has reported another nineteen new cases in various cities, including Harlingen, Brownsville, Los Fresnos, and San Benito. The new cases affect individuals ranging in age from five to nineteen. Fifteen of the cases were connected to earlier patients with confirmed infections. Four of the individuals caught the virus in their communities.
In total, there were 298 confirmed cases, with 108 people having recovered.
Two nursing homes in the area reported outbreaks, including the Veranda Nursing Home and the Windsor Atrium. So far, there were 24 confirmed cases among the Veranda Nursing Home’s staff and 52 among the residents. Negative test results were received for 37 staff members and 24 residents. At the Windsor Atrium, there were 24 residents who tested positive, while three tested negative and 24 employees tested positive while five tested negative.
In Hidalgo County, thirteen people recently tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 255. The ages of those impacted in Hidalgo County range from children to people in their 60s. Across the nation, nursing homes have been struck particularly hard by the virus.
