Charles County Nursing Homes Confirm 90 Cases of Coronavirus
CHARLES COUNTY, MD- Nbcwashington.com writes that nursing home communities in the area around D.C. are struggling with outbreaks of coronavirus. In Charles County, there are now 90 reports of the virus within six different facilities. In addition, 23 members of staff also have confirmed cases.*
The mayor in D.C. and governors in Maryland and Virginia now state that they are paying close attention to nursing home facilities. In Maryland, the National Guard will be helping respond to the most severely impacted nursing homes in the state.
In the region, 20,625 cases of the virus have been confirmed. In D.C., there are 2,350 confirmed cases; in Maryland, 10,784 cases were diagnosed, and Virginia has 7,491. The virus has already tragically killed 704 people, if not more. According to officials in Virginia, the state likely has far more cases than have been confirmed. Additionally, many people exhibiting symptoms of the virus are sent home and told to self-quarantine without ever getting tested.
While some are concerned about the spread of the virus, others are looking to get states back open. Protesters in Virginia were out on the street, pushing to get people back to work.
