865 COVID-19 Cases in Morris County, N.J. Nursing Homes

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — According to an article published on, 865 people in Parsippany, N.J., have contracted COVID-19 while residing or working in a nursing home or long-term care facility in Morris County, New Jersey. State health officials have reported about the number of cases in each nursing home in the state with at least one case. The state instituted the new reporting system after receiving numerous complaints from family members of nursing home residents who could not obtain information from the facility. *

Nursing homes and long-term care facilities are required by New Jersey law to report numerous events to the state board of health. State health authorities have warned nursing homes repeatedly to answer inquiries from concerned family members. 

The state Department of Health established a website to track all COVID-19 cases, including the cases which originate from nursing homes and long-term healthcare facilities. To date, the state calculated 865 cases of COVID-19 in 36 Morris County residential facilities. As of the last count, 156 people who were living in Morris County nursing homes tragically died from COVID-19.
