Man’s Death at Chicago Nursing Home Triggers Outrage
GLENVIEW, Ill. — The son of an elderly resident of a Glenview, Ill., nursing home who died from a COVID-19 infection expressed his frustration and anger over the loss of his father. The nursing home resident, who was 89-years-old when he passed away, lived at the Maryhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since January of 2015, according to NBC5 Chicago. The deceased's son learned that his father began running a fever two weeks ago. The elderly nursing home resident was not eligible for a coronavirus test. However, since that time, the son pleaded with the nursing home for information concerning his father’s health. The situation became so dire that the man asked the local police department to conduct a well-being check on his father. The elderly gentleman was in poor condition and as a result, was rushed to a nearby hospital *
The son of the patient could not believe he had to send in the police to check on his father when he couldn't get answers on his own. The family soon learned that the resident’s roommate died from complications due to coronavirus two weeks earlier and did nothing to protect the vulnerable 89-year-old man.
The angry and brokenhearted son claimed that the nursing home’s staff withheld the truth of the situation from the resident’s family. According to the son, the 89-year-old man contracted the virus from his roommate. The despondent son told NBC 5 Chicago that he could not understand why federal agents had to instruct nursing homes on how to operate when the nursing homes should be the experts concerning the safety of their residents. There have been four deaths and nine illnesses among patients from this nursing facility.
Nursing homes say they have asked the state for assistance, but the state has failed to respond adequately, according to the report.
