Some States are More Dangerous Than Others For Pedestrians

March 20, 2020

USA- Some states are more dangerous than others when it comes to pedestrian crashes, according to CEOWORLD.BIZ. A recent study conducted by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) analyzed pedestrian deaths and collision trends from 2017. The number of pedestrian fatalities in 2017 from traffic crashes averaged to 1 fatality every 88 minutes and almost 115 deaths every week.*

The study indicated that nearly three-quarters of these incidents were at non-intersection locations, while only eighteen percent took place at intersections.

Pedestrians were also at a much greater risk at night.  Seventy-five percent of deaths happened after dark, and four percent took place at either dusk or dawn.

The largest number of pedestrian fatalities occurred in California, where 858 people tragically died. Following California was Florida, with 654 fatalities, Texas with 607 fatalities, Georgia with 253 fatalities, and finally, New York, with 242 deadly pedestrian incidents.

In 2019, the deadly pedestrian trend continued. Early reports indicate last year was deadlier than any year since 1988 when it came to fatal pedestrian collisions.

It is well documented that most accidents can be prevented with a little extra care and safety education.
