Motorcycle Safety Program Works to Train Motorcyclists to Ride Safely
GEORGIA- Savannahnow.com writes that residents in Georgia interested in riding a motorcycle can now sign up for a safety course with the Georgia Department of Driver Services. Officials state that drivers who receive formal training on how to operate their bikes safely are at a lower risk of becoming involved in a deadly crash.
The course will teach basic laws pertaining to riding, go over how to use a motorcycle safely, and work on riding skills on a track while supervised by instructors. Riders of any age are encouraged to take the course in order to improve their skills and become better at operating these two-wheeled vehicles. Those who sign up for the class will receive a helmet for the duration of the course. Instructors will teach basic riding, how to stop, shifting gears, swerving, and emergency braking.
A more advanced class will also be offered to riders who already have the basic skill set. During the second course, bikers will learn at higher speeds and can use their own bikes. Advanced riders also can learn from a high-level class which is aimed at teaching motorcyclists to handle their bikes with greater levels of finesse and how to react in difficult or challenging situations. The course takes place in one day. There are multiple locations to take these courses.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that while motorcycle deaths dropped slightly in 2018, motorcyclists are still overrepresented in traffic fatalities. The chances of a motorcyclist dying in a collision are around 38 times higher than the risks presented to people traveling in passenger vehicles.
