The cause of the accident is not yet known, and North Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating.*
The accident occurred in the afternoon, close to the border between Montgomery County and Moore County, North Carolina. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and The Stanly News & Press report that at approximately 3 p.m., a septic pump truck was traveling east on Highway 24-27 and crossed over the centerline of the roadway. This occurred less than two miles from Biscoe, North Carolina.
After crossing over center, the pump truck sideswiped a westbound Nissan Altima, then crashed head-on into a westbound Mazda (model not reported).
