WAYNE COUNTY, NC. – According to a news report posted online at goldsborodailynews.com, two people were tragically killed in a head-on collision that happened on Highway 55 in Wayne County, North Carolina. North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident at this time, and investigators have identified the victims.*

The accident happened during the evening, close to Thunder Swamp Road on Highway 55. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Goldsboro Daily News report that shortly before 9 p.m., a Jeep was traveling eastbound on the highway and somehow ended up crossing over the centerline of the roadway. The Jeep entered the westbound lane and traveled into the path of a westbound tractor-trailer.

The Jeep and the tractor-trailer then ended up crashing into each other head-on. It is not yet clear what caused the driver of the Jeep to veer over the centerline and traveling into the opposite-bound lanes of travel. North Carolina State Highway Patrol Troopers have not yet indicated what factors might have played a role in the accident or what circumstances might have led to the impact. The events of the accident have not been fully reported.

They were identified by officials as a 20-year-old man from Hobucken, North Carolina, and an 18-year-old man from Hobucken. It is not clear which of the victims had been the driver of the Jeep and which was the passenger.
