Tragic Crash Kills One and Injures One on McCords Ferry Road in Calhoun County, South Carolina (SC)
CALHOUN COUNTY, SC- Wach.com writes that a car crash in Calhoun County killed one person this week. The wreck happened in the late morning on McCords Ferry Road at its intersection with Lonestar Road.*
The victim was in a Chevrolet Trailblazer. The other driver was operating a Ford F250, and the Ford collided with the passenger side of the Chevrolet. The impact killed the driver in the Trailblazer at the scene.
The Ford rolled over and ignited, injuring the driver in that vehicle. Responders transported the Ford’s driver to the Prisma Health Richland medical center for treatment.
Reports indicate that both of the individuals involved in the crash were using their seatbelts.
Different types of crashes carry varying degrees of risks. Angle crashes are some of the more dangerous collisions that can occur on the road, and according to one study conducted in Georgia, cause the most roadway fatalities. In that study, researchers looked at 635 fatalities caused in two-vehicle collisions. The largest number of deaths, 369, were the result of angle crashes. Head-on impacts were more likely to result in deaths than angle crashes, but they were less common, and so killed far fewer individuals.
Stop signs and traffic lights are not the best way to safely control the flow of traffic. Studies indicate that the risk of being in a crash is far lower when a roundabout is used in place of a cross-section intersection controlled by stop signs or lights. Roundabouts force all cars to travel in the same direction, therefore greatly reducing the risk of an angle or head-on impact. The risk of deadly crashes is 90 lower in roundabouts according to one study.
