Three Dead In Tragic Crash on NC Highway 48 in Gaston, North Carolina (NC)

July 15, 2020

GASTON, NC- writes that three men were killed in a wreck in Gaston, North Carolina, this week. The incident took place in the morning, close to Virginia. Police received reports of a fire in Pleasantville, and responders arrived to find a car engulfed in flames.*

Reports indicate that the vehicle split into two halves as a result of the impact, and then caught fire. The surrounding brush had ignited as well by the time firefighters arrived on the scene. All three of the men were ejected from the vehicle. The bodies of the victims were located once the firefighters put out the flames. The crash is now under investigation. The authorities have not stated the cause of the crash or released the names of those killed in the horrible wreck.

One recent study found that North Carolina has a higher than average rate of fatal car crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s data indicates that in 2017, the state lost 1,412 lives to traffic violence. The only states with higher numbers of deaths were Texas, Florida, Georgia, and California. One of the main causes of these deadly collisions was alcohol. In fact, one in three fatal crashes in the state were the result of drunk drivers.

The number of people killed in crashes in Charlotte contributed to the high fatality rate in North Carolina. Some of the factors that also increased the number of accident-related deaths include occupants failing to use their seatbelts and a rise in pedestrian and cyclist deaths. Speeding, failing to yield, and distracted driving were all also listed as common causes for deadly collisions in the state.
