Police Seeking Witnesses in Tragic Head-On Collision Involving Suspected Drunk Driver in Lumberton, North Carolina (NC)

March 26, 2020

LUMBERTON, NC- Robesonian.com writes that police are still actively seeking witnesses to a crash that killed one person in Lumberton. The victim was identified as a 75-year-old man who was in a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and traveling eastbound when another driver crossed the centerline and struck his car head-on.*

The other driver was traveling in a 2009 GMC pickup truck. The 56-year-old was also injured in the collision and was airlifted to a South Carolina Hospital where he was reportedly stable. Officers believe that the driver who caused the deadly crash was under the influence of alcohol. Charges are currently pending in the collision, but the investigating officers are still looking for additional information in order to build the strongest case against the motorist. Police have requested that anyone in the area around the time of the crash contact law enforcement to provide their statement.

Drunk drivers kill an average of about 30 people a day in America. The numbers work out to about one death every 50 minutes. Annually, more than 10,000 fatalities occur in these completely avoidable tragedies. It is the responsibility of every driver to refrain from driving after imbibing alcohol. Drivers should prepare a safe ride home before they start to drink. If a person is hosting a social event involving alcohol, that individual should ensure that guests are not leaving to drive home after drinking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) writes that people who have been drinking should call a ride share service or a taxi rather than ever getting behind the wheel drunk,

Of course, everyone should always buckle up because even sober drivers will sometimes be sharing the road with drunk motorists.
