Woman Killed in Tragic Pedestrian Crash that Also Injured Grandson in Tallahassee, Florida

March 24, 2020

TALLAHASSEE, FL- Ibtimes.com writes that a woman died in a tragic pedestrian collision in Tallahassee this week. The incident occurred when the victim was walking on the sidewalk and pushing her grandchild. The victim was identified as a 45-year-old woman.*

Police reports indicate that a westbound vehicle traveling on Tennessee Street swerved off the roadway close to the intersection with Dixie Drive. Reports indicate that the driver stated that he believed he had to swerve to avoid an imminent collision. The woman and the child were both on the sidewalk, and the vehicle struck them both. The woman died at the scene of the crash, and responders rushed the child to the hospital where he or she is being treated for severe injuries. Police did not release the child’s age. Officers stated that the crash is still being investigated.

One witness described the sound made by the impact by saying that he thought a motorcycle was pulling up to his door. He exited his building and found the victim’s body on the ground just a few feet away from him. The man owns a business on the road and said that crashes in the area are common. He also pointed out that there are no traffic signals at the intersection of Dixie Drive and Tennessee Street. Police are asking for anyone with information about the tragic collision to contact investigators.

Sadly, pedestrians are dying in high numbers in Florida. The state is the most likely place in the nation to be struck and killed by a motor vehicle. Out of the twenty cities found to be the deadliest for pedestrians, nine are located in the Sunshine State.
