Man Sustains Severe Injuries in Workplace Accident in North Carolina
FAIRMONT, NC- Wmbfnews.com writes that a man sustained severe injuries in an accident at a North Carolina workplace late last week. According to reports, the victim was involved in an incident with a piece of machinery that caused trauma to his arm. Someone drove the victim to a local police department where officers stayed with him until the emergency medical services arrived.*
Responders transported the victim to the hospital via airlift. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now handling the investigation into the accident.
Workplace accidents are far less common than when OSHA was founded, but some industries still have high rates of devastating accidents. Construction is widely considered one of the most dangerous industries for workers in the United States. Working with large pieces of heavy machinery and from rooftops and on tall structures creates risks of something going wrong. Most of the accidents that OSHA investigates turn out to have been preventable. In most instances, the administration will find that some type of safety violation occurred and led to the incident.
The four most common accidents that take place on construction sites involve falls, electrocutions, being struck by objects, or being caught in-between equipment. According to OSHA, hundreds of lives could be saved each year across the country simply by eliminating these categories of workplace accidents.
Employers are responsible for maintaining safe workplaces for their employees. This means that supervisors and those in charge must ensure that the employees receive proper training and follow safety regulations. Companies can face serious consequences and fines for failing to take all appropriate precautions on work sites.
