Crash Kills One on Raeford Road in Fayetteville, North Carolina

December 08, 2019

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Fayobserver.com writes that a crash took place earlier this week in Fayetteville. The collision occurred during the morning on Raeford Road. Police say that the crash caused a fatality.*

Footage from the scene indicates that two vehicles were involved in the collision. An SUV sustained serious damage, and the other vehicle appears to have been a semi-truck. The collision left debris across the roadway.

Last year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), fewer people died in car accidents than the year before. The report indicates that vehicle-related fatalities are trending downwards. The NHTSA believes that the gains are related to improving crash avoidance technology that is coming in many newer car models. Drivers are now alerted when they are risking being in a collision. Some vehicles are even able to stop in an emergency, even if the driver does not respond in time.

Sadly, the gains are small and are not occurring across every category of traffic accidents. Pedestrians are dying in higher numbers every year, and crashes involving large trucks are also increasing each year.

Large trucks are difficult to drive because of their size and weight. These vehicles have many blind spots, as well.

Newer trucks are being developed with similar safety features to the ones seen in passenger vehicles. The features reduce the driver’s blind spots and can warn in the event of an impending collision. Many in the industry hope that these safety features will help reduce the number of these accidents that occur each year in a way that is similar to the reduction seen in passenger vehicles. While reductions in traffic deaths are a good thing, the numbers are still high and only dropping a small amount each year.
