Industrial Accident Kills One in Marion, North Carolina
MARION, NC- Wlos.com writes that an accident killed a man from Morganton earlier this week in Marion. The incident happened at a machine company in the early afternoon. The police say that paramedics were treating the 32-year-old victim when they arrived on the scene. The man was unconscious, and after several minutes, the paramedics’ efforts were sadly unsuccessful in reviving the victim.*
The authorities say that an investigation is now underway into the cause of the man’s death. Police are referring to the incident as an industrial accident. No additional details are available at this time.
The National Safety Council states that work-related accidents kill thousands of people across the United States each year. These incidents are almost always preventable. When these accidents take place, it is apparent that something went wrong.
The most common causes of workplace fatalities include transportation, which includes vehicle collisions, falls, violence, contact with objects and equipment, and exposure to toxic or harmful environments or substances.
Men are far more likely to die on the job than are women. In 2017, 386 women died in work-related accidents, while these incidents killed 4,761 men. The reason more men die at work is likely that some of the most dangerous jobs are in areas that are dominated by male employees. These include truck driving, agricultural workers, maintenance workers, roofer and aircraft workers. The construction industry and industrial jobs are often considered dangerous because of the large heavy equipment and hazardous work environments. Regulators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspect work sites after fatal accidents and typically find some form of safety violation indicating that if workers followed all regulations, they could prevent many of these deaths.
