Hickory Man Tragically Dies in Collision in Hickory, North Carolina
HICKORY, NC – According to an online news report at hickoryrecord.com, no charges have been filed after a weekend accident that resulted in the tragic death of a man, per the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).*
The NCSHP indicates that they responded to the scene of an accident on Jack Whitener Road in Catawba County in the early morning hours. A man, aged 50, from Hickory, North Carolina, died at the scene of the crash. He was operating a 1989 Ford pickup truck.
The other vehicle involved in the crash is a 2008 Ford pickup truck that was operated by a teen, aged 18, from Newton, North Carolina. He sustained injuries and was transported by Catawba County EMS to an area hospital for treatment.
The two drivers were heading south on Jack Whitener Road when the 50-year-old’s vehicle crossed over the double yellow center line. He then went off the left side of the road and lost control of his vehicle. His vehicle then traveled across the roadway to the right where he ultimately collided with the 18-year-old’s vehicle.
Following the crash, the 50-year-old’s vehicle crashed into a creek bank, flipped over, and then slammed into a number of trees. This caused the 18-year-old’s vehicle to collide into a fire hydrant and overturn.
It is not clear at this time whether the 50-year-old was attempting to pass the teen’s vehicle. The NCSHP is currently investigating the crash to learn more.
No charges have been filed in the accident at this time.
