Victim Identified; Trucker Facing Charges Due to Deadly Runaway Trailer Accident
JACKSONVILLE, NC – A person has been killed by a runaway trailer that struck a vehicle in the afternoon hours earlier this week. The accident occurred on Country Club Road. Per a lieutenant with the local police department, a trailer became detached from a pickup truck, which then crashed into a Jeep. The impact of the crash caused the driver of the Jeep to die as a result of her injuries. The police note that the trailer had safety chains.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 60-year-old man, from Jacksonville, North Carolina, was taken into custody following the crash and is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving to endanger, and improper towing/failure to use safety chains. His bond has been set at $20,000.
