Deadly Crash Involving an 18-Wheeler Causes Interstate 485 to be Closed to Traffic

HUNTERSVILLE, NC – According to an online news report at patch.com, a portion of Interstate 485 in northern Charlotte was blocked off to traffic after an accident occurred involving a tractor-trailer.*

The fatal accident occurred on the outer loop of Interstate 485, which caused the shut-down of traffic located between W.T. Harris Boulevard and Interstate 77, per the Huntersville Fire Department. One of the vehicles is reported as having caught on fire following the crash.  The type of vehicle involved in the accident with the tractor-trailer has not been reported. The identity of all vehicle occupants has not been made public at this time.  It is not clear what caused the accident, who was at fault, and whether anyone else, other than the deceased victim, sustained injuries in the crash.

The Huntersville Fire Department was on the scene of the accident along with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Charlotte Fire Department.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
