Twelve-Year-Old Boy from North Carolina Ran Over by School Bus After his Backpack Got Stuck in the Doors

October 13, 2019

MOORE COUNTY, NC – According to an online news report at newsweek.com, a twelve-year-old boy in North Carolina is lucky to be alive after a school bus ran him over.  The boy’s backpack got stuck in the doors of the school bus, which caused the accident.*

The boy was able to walk away from a school bus accident that occurred in Moore County, North Carolina.  The boy’s mother has criticized the conduct of the bus driver.  The mother indicates that her son "could have died.” She further adds that “[a] bus driver is supposed to make sure that her kids are supposed to be safe...I don't send my son on a school bus to get hurt."

The accident occurred as the boy was exiting the bus.  The doors of the bus closed before he was able to safely exit the vehicle.  The driver then drove off, dragging the boy whose backpack was stuck in the doors of the bus.  "She pulled away and it dragged me, and I fell,"  the boy explained.  He notes that he was dragged for approximately ten feet before he was able to break free from his backpack.  As he fell on the ground, one of the tires of the bus ran him over. The accident left tire marks on the boy’s arm and his veins turned red.  He sustained injuries to his arm and wrist and was left with lacerations and contusions on his body.

The driver of the bus, who remains unidentified at this time, is facing charges of reckless and careless driving. Per the Moore County School district, the employee is currently not driving a bus as a result of the accident.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
