Woman Suffers Life-Altering Facial Burns in Gas Grill Accident in North Carolina

October 09, 2019

North Carolina- Foxnews.com writes that a woman sustained severe burns in an accident involving a gas grill in North Carolina. The woman is said to have been cleaning the grill when a fireball shot out from the device, seriously scorching her face, torso, and arms. The 36-year-old mother had been heating the grill in order to clear off bits of food left by previous uses. She went to clear the grill with a brush when the burn occurred.*

The victim said she screamed and went to her friend’s apartment. Her friend brought her to the emergency room, however, she was then transported to the Jaycee Burn Center located two hours from the accident location in Chapel Hill. The severe burns required skin grafts.

The victim now has to use compression garments and is still suffering from severe nerve pain on her limbs.

As a result of the burns, she has to cover her sensitive skin to prevent the sun from causing further damage. The full recovery time was estimated at between 9 to 12 months. Despite the pain and the severe and disfiguring scars, the victim is trying to remain positive. She stated that the recovery has taught her to be patient. Her family and friends have stepped in to help her with chores and daily tasks while she is recovering.

The woman says while she would like to be able to wear normal clothing again, she is more concerned about the ongoing pain. Grills cause about ten deaths, and 160 injuries each year in the United States and in total, cause around 10,200 home fires annually. Leaks and breaks are the most common causes of problems with gas grills.
