North Carolina Department of Transportation Worker Sustains Serious Injuries After being Struck by a Vehicle

NORTH WILKESBORO, NC – According to an online news report at journalpatriot.com, a North Carolina Department of Transportation worker sustained serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle earlier this week on Suncrest Orchard Road located close to North Wilkesboro, per a trooper with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.*

The victim, a 44-year-old man from North Wilkesboro, was transported to an area hospital by medical helicopter in Winston-Salem for the treatment of multiple fractures to his leg as well as potential internal injuries.  The man, as a result of his injuries, underwent surgery, per the news report.

A woman, aged 67, from Purlear, North Carolina, was driving a 2003 Toyota Matrix as she was heading eastbound in the morning hours when she went off on the right of the roadway and struck the man as he was picking up trash on the side of the road.  

It is not clear whether the woman sustained injuries in the crash. It is also unclear as to whether alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash.  It has not been reported whether the driver will face charges for her involvement in the accident.  There are no further details on the accident at this time.
