Three Hospitals in Central Georgia Rated Poorly For Patient Safety
MACON, GA – According to an online news report posted on 13wmaz.com, the Leapfrog Group, a national health-care analyst, issued "C" grades to three of Central Georgia's largest hospitals: Houston Medical Center, Navicent Baldwin, and Medical Center-Navicent Health. The below-average ratings were the results of safety concerns. The reports disclose safety issues such as errors, and accidents which often result in serious injuries. Navicent-Baldwin increased its rating from a rating of "D" the hospital received last year. Houston Medical Center's rating fell from a rating of "B" last year to a rating of "C" this year.
Central Georgia's largest hospital, Medical Center-Navicent, was ranked poorly by Leapfrog because the hospital ranked poorly for preventing infections, for surgical problems, for communication and for staff hand washing. The news report states that Medical Center-Navicent Health has a record of low ratings over the past several years.
Leapfrog ranked over 2,500 hospitals across the United States. The ratings are based on 28 factors. Those 28 factors are based on injury and accident statistics delivered and collected by the federal government as well as surveys. The rating company stated that they rate hospitals in order to educate the public and help the public make better choices when seeking medical care in their local communities. Also, the rating report helps draw attention to specific issues that the hospital staff can address to ensure safe medical facilities and care in the future. Leapfrog states that approximately 440,000 people lose their lives each year from preventable hospital errors.
