Bus Crash on S.R. 686 in Largo, Florida, Leaves Seven People Injured

LARGO, FL. – According to a news report published online at, a bus crash that occurred on State Road 686 in Largo, Florida, left seven people with injuries. The crash reportedly involved one other vehicle, and Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are still investigating the cause of the collision.*

The accident occurred close to 62nd Street on State Road 686. Florida Highway Patrol and WFLA report that a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus was stopped in the outside lane of the roadway. The report says that the bus was legally stopped, but it does not say if this was to let passengers on or off. While the bus was still stationary, Troopers say a driver ran into the back of the bus.

The make and model of the second vehicle were not provided in the news story. It is not clear what direction the bus was facing or what direction the second vehicle was headed at the time. Florida Highway Patrol indicated that the driver of the second vehicle did not notice that the bus was stopped, but the report did not say why the driver did not notice. It is not clear if distracted driving was involved in the accident. 

WFLA reports that seven people were on the bus at the time of the crash, and all seven sustained injuries. They were reportedly taken to area hospitals for treatment, where their current medical conditions are not known. None of the injured persons was identified. It is unclear if the driver of the bus, who was also not identified, was among the injured. 

The driver of the second vehicle was identified as a woman. Her age and hometown were not listed in the news article. It is not clear if she sustained injuries. WFLA reports that she was cited for careless driving.
