Rear-End Collision on Bayside Bridge in Pinellas County, Florida, Tragically Kills Driver

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a rear-end collision that occurred on the Bayside Bridge in Pinellas County, Florida, tragically killed a driver. Another person was seriously injured in the crash, according to the news story. Authorities are still investigating the accident.*

The collision took place in the evening on the southbound side of the Bayside Bridge. Florida Highway Patrol and the Tampa Bay Reporter state that around 8:30 p.m., a. 2003 Toyota SUV (model not reported) was traveling south and slowed down on the roadway. A 2008 Lexus sedan (model not reported) that was traveling behind the Toyota failed to slow down in response and ended up crashing into the back of the Toyota.

After the impact, the Toyota rotated and rolled several times before coming to a stop. It is not yet clear why the driver of the Toyota slowed down or why the driver of the Lexus did not slow down. None of the factors potentially involved in the crash was listed in the news report. However, Troopers were reported to have said they did not suspect that alcohol was involved in the accident. 

The Tampa Bay Reporter states that the driver of the Toyota was injured and taken to Northside Hospital, where he tragically died. The victim was identified as a 45-year-old man from Clearwater, Florida. 

In addition, the Tampa Bay Reporter says that a passenger in the Toyota was injured and transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. She was identified as a 34-year-old woman from Clearwater. Her injuries were described as serious.

The driver of the Lexus was identified as a 37-year-old woman from Clearwater. The Tampa Bay Reporter says she was not injured in the crash. Troopers are handling the investigation and say that charges are pending.
