September 23, 2019

ORLANDO, FL. – According to a news report published online at clickorlando.com, a child was hit by a vehicle on West Colonial Drive in Orlando, Florida. It appears that the child ran into the roadway and was struck by a passing vehicle. The extent of the child’s injuries is not clear, and Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.*

The accident occurred sometime in the evening in the 4800 block of West Colonial Drive. Florida Highway Patrol and ClickOrlando report that a child was with his grandfather in the area and somehow got away. The child ended up in the street and was hit by a vehicle driving down the road. The make and model of the vehicle involved were not listed in the report.

The report states that the driver of the vehicle stopped and remained at the scene. This person was not identified, and it is not clear how many people were in the vehicle.

The child and the child’s grandfather were also not identified in the report. ClickOrlando states that the child was rushed to a hospital for treatment following the incident. The seriousness of the child’s injuries is unclear.

Florida Highway Patrol and Orange County Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Troopers are still investigating, and at the time of the news report’s posting to the ClickOrlando website, no further information had been released regarding the accident or the investigation. It is not clear if charges will be pursued in the case.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that a crash-related pedestrian death occurs in the country every 90 minutes. Thousands of pedestrians are treated for crash-related injuries in the country every year. Children are particularly vulnerable to serious pedestrian accidents, the CDC says, as one in every five child traffic deaths involves a child pedestrian.
