Motorcyclist Tragically Killed in Crash with SUV on S.R. 40 in Polk County, Florida

POLK COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, a motorcyclist was tragically killed in a collision with an SUV that happened on State Road 40 in Polk County, Florida. The driver of the SUV was also injured in the accident, according to the news report.*

The accident occurred in the morning at the crossing of State Road 60 and Pine Grove Road in Mulberry, Polk County, Florida. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and ClickOrlando report that shortly before 6 a.m., a Suzuki motorcycle of unknown model was traveling east on State Road 60. A Ford Explorer was traveling west on the roadway at the same time. At the crossing with Pine Grove Road, the Ford driver attempted to turn left, and the motorcycle ended up crashing into the passenger’s side of the Ford. 

After the impact, the Ford turned over onto its side, and the motorcycle broke into pieces. The cause of the accident is not yet clear. ClickOrlando reports that witnesses stated the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed while passing other vehicles. Authorities did not confirm if speed was a factor in the accident or if the Ford driver pulled into the path of the motorcyclist. 

ClickOrlando reports that the motorcyclist was tragically killed in the accident. He was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but it came off during the collision. The report identified him as a 22-year-old man from Lithia, Florida. 

ClickOrlando also reports that the driver of the Ford was injured in the accident and taken to a local hospital. The extent of her injuries is unclear. She was identified as a 54-year-old woman. 

Investigation of the accident is ongoing by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies reportedly said that charges are not expected at this time.
