Two Injured After Deputy Crashes into Accident Scene on I-95 in Broward County, Florida

September 22, 2019

BROWARD COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, two people were injured after a deputy crashed into an accident scene on Interstate 95 in Broward County, Florida. One of the injured persons was an off-duty deputy who had stopped to help the driver involved in the original accident.*

The accident occurred during the overnight hours on the southbound side of I-95, by the exit to Sample Road in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Authorities and WSVN report that around midnight, a Toyota Corolla was traveling south on the interstate and was involved in a single-vehicle accident. The circumstances of the accident were not included in the news report, so it is not clear how it happened.

WSVN reports that a deputy with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office saw the collision and stopped to help the Toyota driver. The deputy was off-duty but was in a marked sheriff’s office vehicle. The deputy and the Toyota driver were standing on the shoulder of the interstate, when another Broward County Sheriff’s deputy responding to the accident call approached the scene.

Somehow, the on-duty deputy lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the other deputy’s vehicle, then hit both people standing on the interstate. It is not yet clear what led to the deputy’s loss of control, but WSVN states it was possibly due to road conditions. The news report indicates that the pavement was wet that night.

According to WSVN, the off-duty deputy and the Toyota driver were transported to a local hospital with injuries. The report said their injuries were not life-threatening. Current medical conditions were not provided. It is not clear if the on-duty deputy was injured in the crash. No one involved was identified. Florida Highway Patrol and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the accident at this time.
