Tragic, Fatal Pedestrian Accident on SE 27th St. in Gainesville, Florida

GAINESVILLE, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a man was fatally hit by a vehicle on Southeast 27th Street in Gainesville, Florida. Investigators have identified all of the people involved in the accident, but the collision is still under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol. No charges have been announced in the case.* 

The accident occurred during the evening, near to the intersection of Southeast 15th Avenue and Southeast 27th Street. Florida Highway Patrol and The Gainesville Sun report that around 8:30 p.m., a pedestrian was walking on 27th Street and was somehow struck by a Chrysler Sebring that was traveling on the roadway. 

The report did not say what direction the pedestrian was walking or whether he was inside of a lane of travel on the road. It is not clear what direction the car was traveling, either. Authorities responding to the scene did not immediately say if the pedestrian or the driver had the right-of-way prior to the collision or provide information regarding the factors that might have contributed to the accident. 

The Gainesville Sun reports that the pedestrian was tragically killed in the accident. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene and identified him as a 57-year-old man from Gainesville. 

The Gainesville Sun further reports that the driver of the Chrysler and a passenger in the Chrysler were not injured in the collision. The driver was identified as a 30-year-old man from Gainesville. The passenger was identified as a 30-year-old woman from Gainesville. No one else was inside the vehicle. 

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, and Troopers have not yet released additional details regarding the case. It is not clear at this time if charges will be filed in connection with the fatal wreck.
