September 15, 2019

BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, PA. – According to a news story reported at lehighvalleylive.com, a Florida motorcyclist tragically died in a traffic accident that occurred in Bethlehem Township, Pennsylvania. Police officers are still in the process of investigating and have not yet identified the cause of the accident.*

The accident happened in the afternoon on Freemansburg Avenue in Bethlehem Township. The Bethlehem Township Police Department and Lehigh Valley Live report that around 2:30 p.m., a motorcycle was traveling east on the roadway, headed toward the intersection with Second Street. At the intersection, a dump truck that had been traveling north on Second Street attempted to turn left onto the westbound side of Freemansburg Avenue.

In the process of making the turn, the dump truck collided with the motorcycle. The news report indicates that the front of the motorcycle crashed into the driver’s side of the dump truck. Lehigh Valley Live reports that the motorcyclist was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania, where he tragically died from his injuries about two hours after the crash. The news report identified him as a 24-year-old man from Port Orange, Florida.

Following the accident, the dump truck driver stopped and remained at the scene. The report identified the driver of the dump truck as a 37-year-old man from Allentown, Pennsylvania. It does not appear that he was injured. The company for which he was working at the time was not named.

Emergency crews closed down the roadway after the crash, and it remained blocked for about four hours. Traffic was rerouted around the area during this time.

Police officers are still investigating the accident and are reportedly looking into whether speeding was a factor. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Bethlehem Township Police Department at (610) 419-9684.
