Man in Critical Condition After Jet Ski Accident in Hillsborough County, Florida

September 15, 2019

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report posted online at, a man is in critical condition after a jet ski accident that occurred in Hillsborough County, Florida. A boat ran into the jet ski on the Hillsborough River, and a nearby resident’s surveillance camera reportedly captured the harrowing accident.*

According to WDTN, footage from a homeowner’s security camera shows that a man was riding on a jet ski on the Hillsborough River, when he turned into the path of a boat. The 21-foot boat then crashed into the jet ski, sending the man into the water. The news report says that the person driving the boat stopped and jumped into the water to rescue the victim.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported the jet ski rider to a local hospital for treatment. WDTN says he is in critical condition. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission identified the victim as a 30-year-old man. His hometown was not reported, and the news story does not say whether anyone else was on the jet ski at the time of the accident.

The driver of the boat was identified as a male. His age and hometown were not reported. WDTN states that he and a female passenger on his boat were not injured in the accident.

The homeowner who turned over his security footage told reporters that people often travel extremely fast on the water behind his house. He said that in front of his house, the speed limit on the water is 25 mph. He thinks perhaps if the speed limit were also set to 25 mph in the back, fewer accidents might occur.

The Fish and Wildlife Commission is still investigating the incident, and at the time of the news report’s posting, no charges had been filed.
