Woman Tragically Killed in Vehicle Wreck on S.R. 80 in Bradenton, Florida

BRADENTON, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a woman was tragically killed in a vehicle wreck that occurred on State Road 80 in Bradenton, Florida. The collision appears to have happened due to a vehicle crossing into the opposite lane of travel in order to pass slower traffic.* 

The accident happened in the afternoon on a stretch of State Road 80 in Bradenton, Hendry County, Florida. No mile marker or intersection was listed in the news report, so the exact location of the collision is not clear. Authorities and WWSB report that shortly before 2 p.m., a 2005 Dodge Caravan was traveling eastbound on the highway and moved into the westbound lane to try to pass slower-moving vehicles. 

The news report indicates that this was on a curved portion of State Road 80 that is marked as a no-passing zone. The Dodge encountered a westbound 2016 Kia Rio while trying to pass other cars, and the drivers of both these vehicles tried to swerve to avoid a crash. However, the front of the Dodge ended up crashing into the driver’s side of the Kia. After impact, the Kia ran off the road and down an embankment, while the Dodge spun and came to a stop in the westbound lane. 

WWSB reports that the driver of the Kia was tragically killed in the crash. The report identified her as a 26-year-old woman from Bradenton. The report did not say if any passengers were in her car.

WWSB further reports that the driver of the Dodge was injured and transported to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was identified as a 32-year-old man. His injuries are said to be serious. The news report additionally states that a child was also riding in the Dodge, and the child was not injured.
